“Bicycle Safety
Program”
Bicycle safety programs include safety checklists
for the bikes as well as the use of helmets.
More than 70 percent of children-27.7 million-between the ages of 5-14
ride bikes. Head injuries account for
more than 60 percent of bicycle-related deaths, more than two-thirds of
bicycle-related hospital admissions, and one-third of emergency room visits.
There are several organizations that offer
information on bike safety as well as low cost helmets. Helmets can be used in the childcare program
or a bicycle safety program can be offered through your program to offer
information and low cost helmets to parents for their children.
